Northwestern baseball claimed victory over Ohio State 12-2 in run-rule fashion at Wrigley Field on Friday.
After a scoreless first inning, the Wildcats got the bats rolling. Graduate student infielder Jacob Hand kicked off the scoring with three runs on a bases-clearing double before NU added three more later in the second inning.
After adding to their lead and allowing just two runs, the ’Cats led 10-2 by the time the bottom of the seventh inning rolled around. At that juncture, Kucherak hit a two-run single to complete the run-rule victory.
In the blowout win, four NU players had at least two hits, and seven drew at least one walk. Additionally, graduate student right-hander Sam Hliboki pitched a complete game, allowing just three hits and one earned run.
After Ohio State won Saturday’s contest 11-6 at Rocky and Berenice Miller Park, the ’Cats bounced back and took Sunday’s rubber match 17-2, also by run-rule, to win the series.
NU takes on Valparaiso at Rocky and Berenice Miller Park on Tuesday before closing out the regular season against UCLA on the road.
